Do you have a kitchen sink that slow to drain? Learn "How NOT to Call the Plumber" this holiday season! With that said, if you'd prefer we take care of it for you, we're always here to help!
Today we’re going to go through 5 easy steps you can take to help unclog a slow running kitchen sink. These steps may seem simple, but they work!
Step 1:
Get some water boiling - either a full kettle or medium sized pot will be enough. Once that water has come to a boil, pour it down the kitchen drain... Just be careful not to burn yourself!
Step 2:
Pour one cup of baking soda down the drain. Be sure to use a chop stick or something similar to get as much of it as possible down into the drain itself.
Step 3:
Pour one cup of white vinegar down the drain. As we all remember from science class, this is going to start burping and bubbling, which will help break down the grease and debris in the drain.
Step 4:
Cover our science experiment with a wet cloth or the sink stopper, trapping as much of that reaction as you can inside the drain. Try to curb your curiosity and leave it alone for about 30 minutes - this is going to give the concoction time to work it’s magic!
Step 5:
Time for another kettle or pot of boiling water - we’re going to slowly pour it down the drain once again. This is going to help to actually remove the loosened gunk.
Bonus Step:
Once you’ve poured the second round of boiling water down the drain, fill the sink up about halfway with hot water from the tap. Pull the plug and watch that cyclone form. As plumbers, this cyclone is one of the most beautiful things we see! Aside from it’s beauty, this extra water helps to get rid of the last bits of debris that may have been missed during Step 5.
That’s it! You’ve successfully helped your sink to run free and smooth (and hopefully avoided a call to the plumber in the process!).
We hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! And as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
